Gettings Started with Program Feeds

PGM feeds are the most major addition for v2.0, allowing users to send low latency program feeds into the intercom system. This means you no longer need to provide external foldback monitors to those who only need a simple monitor.

Currently only WHIP streaming is supported. SRT and other protocols may be supported in future depending on user demand.

PGM feeds, like channels have permissions per role, but the only permissions here are:

• Green: active (can view the PGM feed)
• Empty/Outline: disabled (has no access to see or hear the PGM feed)

Once you’ve configured a PGM feed in the matrix and according to your license tier, the stream ingests will be created upon the first user joining the live intercom system. The creator of the intercom can then see the ingest url and stream key in the PGM Feeds tab when joining.

PGM feed latency should be relatively low but will depend on the overall latency between the streaming software, the Web Comms media server, and the end user.

There is no transcoding done in the media server to keep the latency as low as possible. This means that the consumers of the PGM feed must have the available internet bandwidth to receive what is being sent to the media server.

Whilst users can stream up to 6Mb/s to the media server we’ve generally found a maximum of 4Mb/s and an average of 3Mb/s to be more than sufficient.
